Plot

Höfin á ofanverðri nítjándu öldinni eru ekki lengur örugg; mörg skip hafa farist. Sjómenn hafa snúið til hafnar með sögur af grimmum náhval sem sökkvir skipunum þeirra. Náttúrufræðingurinn prófessor Aronnax, astoðarmaður hans Conseil, og hvalaveiðimaðurinn Ned Land, fara í leiðangur til að reyna að komast að því hvað það er sem er að granda skipunum.
