Plot

Árið er 140 eftir Krist, og 20 ár eru liðin frá því þegar níunda herdeildin hvarf með húð og hári í Skotlandi, án þess að skýring hafi fundist á því. Hundraðshöfðinginn Marcus Aquila kemur heim frá Róm til að leysa ráðgátuna og til að reisa við orðspor föður síns, sem var leiðtogi níundu herdeildarinnar.
